Quang Duong Contract Termination: The United Pickleball Association (UPA) has officially ended its contract with 20-year-old professional player Quang Duong. The decision came after Duong missed the Major League Pickleball (MLP) Midseason Tournament held from July 9 to July 13 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Instead of playing in the required event, he was seen leading promotional pickleball events overseas.

Duong Hosts Events Abroad During Mandatory Tournament
According to a termination letter sent on July 12, Quang Duong participated in a “Meet Up & Challenge” event at the Vinpearl Resort Nha Trang in Vietnam on July 11 and 12. He was also involved in other activities during the same period the MLP tournament took place. The UPA stated that Duong did not get prior approval to miss the domestic event and failed to follow the rules outlined in his player contract.
The UPA wrote,
“Your actions represent willful and material breaches of the Agreement,” explaining that Duong had violated the exclusivity and event approval terms of his contract.

Repeat Violation Raises Concerns
This was not Duong’s first issue with the league. In May, he received a warning after entering an unapproved international tournament where prize money was awarded. That led to penalties and a warning that more violations could result in losing his contract.
The termination letter concluded,
“While unfortunate, your repeated disregard for your contractual and professional obligations leaves the PPA no choice.”
UPA Defends Its Decision
The United Pickleball Association has emphasized that its rules are in place to protect the integrity of the league and ensure fair play among athletes. Officials also mentioned the importance of clear event protocols and the potential for legal action if Duong participates in non-UPA events during what would have been the remaining time on his contract.
News in Brief: Quang Duong Contract Termination
The United Pickleball Association has cut ties with Quang Duong for breaking contract rules. He skipped a key UPA event to host an overseas camp. This was his second violation. The UPA stressed rule enforcement and may take legal steps. Duong has not responded publicly.
