Erin Andrews Swaps Sidelines for Pickleball: Erin Andrews, a well-known sideline reporter for Fox Sports, has decided to try a new sport this summer—pickleball. Andrews shared on her podcast that she’s starting beginner lessons before the NFL season begins in September, which will leave her with less free time.
The 46-year-old sportscaster made this announcement on the “Calm Down” podcast, which she co-hosts with Charissa Thompson. While Andrews recently signed a new contract with Fox Sports after her previous deal ended following the 2024 NFL season, she’s now looking to step into a different role—one on the pickleball court.
Trying Something New
Andrews said she’s been focused on fitness lately and wanted to try something outside.
“I’m in a real cardio/pilates era that I’m enjoying, but I also want to be out in the elements, I want to try different things,” Erin Andrews said. “I know I’m late to the pickleball experience. There were a couple of times this week where I wanted to try beginner lessons, but I didn’t have the courage to do it. So I looked at my better half and said, ‘Will you please take me to the pickleball courts and we can get a little rally going.’ I didn’t love my outfit I showed up with, so I went to the pro shop and bought a full-fledged outfit.”
Even though she enjoys being active, Andrews admitted she was nervous to start learning the basics of the sport.
Taking the First Step
Andrews revealed that she plans to take her first lesson soon but knows she won’t have much time once football season starts again.
“I am going to take a lesson this week. I’m a little nervous about it. … I don’t know where the weight placement is. I know I’m supposed to stay back in the middle. I can definitely see how people get injured. I want to get good, but I won’t have time to do this during the season.”
Her co-host, Charissa Thompson, showed her support and said she would play with her later in the summer.
What This Could Mean
This new interest in pickleball shows Erin Andrews’ willingness to step out of her comfort zone. Although her main focus remains NFL reporting, she’s using her time before the season to try something new and active. Whether or not she becomes skilled at pickleball, her effort to learn the sport reflects how many adults are picking it up as a fun and social way to stay fit.
