Men’s Pickleball Style Tips: What male pickleball players wear can make a big first impression, and it may even help catch the eye of someone special. According to Juliet Steinhauer, girlfriend of professional player Michael Loyd, most guys don’t realize their outdated or worn-out clothes may be turning people off rather than attracting attention. With a few simple style changes, men can upgrade their look on the court and boost their chances of making a strong impression.
Juliet Steinhauer shared tips based on what works for her boyfriend Michael Loyd—one of the more stylish men in pro pickleball. She believes that putting just a little effort into your outfit can go a long way.

Out with the Old
Many men still wear clothes they’ve had since college. But those shirts often have holes, sweat stains, or faded logos that make them look worn out and messy.
“Men need to throw away their T-shirts from 2018,” said Juliet Steinhauer. “Guys have shirts, shorts, and socks with so many holes in them. They’re literally falling apart. If the logo is faded or there’s stains, throw it away and get new clothes.”
She suggests buying clean, new athletic shirts—especially if men still want to represent their college teams. Most universities still sell fresh gear.
Steinhauer also noted that top male pickleball players don’t wear ripped or stained clothes. If you want to play like the pros, you should dress like them.

Stick with Simple Styles
When picking out new gear, going for bold colors might seem fun, but basics are more effective. Solid shirts in white, black, gray, brown, or navy always look clean and put-together.
“Get a few basics and mix and match with neutrals,” said Steinhauer. “If you want to wear a bright top, that’s cool, just wear it with a neutral bottom. Keep it simple. You don’t have to be going all out with bright pink or neon. That can be way too much.”
Federico Staksrud gave a great example during the Select Medical Orange County Cup. He wore bright red-orange shorts but paired them with a crisp white shirt, shoes, hat, and socks. The outfit looked sharp without being too much.
Clean, matching clothes show that a player cares about his look—and that’s rare enough on the court to stand out.
Confidence Makes the Difference
According to Steinhauer, confidence is just as important as the outfit itself.
“I think swag is the number one thing. It’s not necessarily the clothes, but how you wear them,” she said. “Michael is just kind of a swaggy guy. He has jewelry, earrings, necklaces, and tattoos. He has that cool vibe that makes him look good no matter the clothes.”
Players like Hunter Johnson, Gabe Joseph, and Hayden Patriquin are also known for their style and charisma. Johnson keeps it simple with navy outfits and white or black accessories. Joseph always gives off a cool energy, and Patriquin often chooses clean, neutral clothes that help his confident attitude stand out even more.
Even simple outfits can look great when worn with personality and a positive attitude on the court.
Why It Matters
Taking a moment to choose clean, matching clothes for pickleball can change how people see you. Steinhauer believes many men don’t try because they simply don’t think about it.
“I think it’s hard for the guys because sometimes they just don’t care,” she said. “They throw on whatever they feel like and it’s usually whatever was on top of the laundry pile.”
But now, thanks to her advice, male players have a few easy tools to help them stand out in a good way—without overdoing it.
