Kyle Koszuta Reveals 3 Genius Pickleball Returns to Outsmart Any Opponent

Kyle Koszuta’s Pickleball Return Strategies: Pickleball player Kyle Koszuta recently gave advice on where to hit the return shot to help players get more side outs. He explained three simple return placements that can confuse opponents and make it easier to win points, especially when playing against teams that don’t communicate well.

Smart Pickleball Returns

Kyle Koszuta stressed how important it is to think about where the return shot goes in pickleball. He said hitting the ball in the right spot can make the other team mess up and give you an advantage.

“So here’s three places you can hit your return so you earn more side outs,” he said.

Target the Middle

The first tip from Kyle Koszuta was to hit the ball to the middle of the court. “Middle of the court causes a decision to be made between both partners. And if you make teams communicate enough with each other, you know they won’t. So that can give you more points.”

When a return lands in the center, both players might get confused about who should take it. That confusion can lead to mistakes.

Aim at the Left Foot

Kyle Koszuta’s second tip focused on targeting the left foot of the player on the right side of the court. “Hit the ball towards this player’s left foot. Why? Because one, this is often if this is a righty right here, good handwriting. That is this player’s backhand. And two, often this player will have to make a decision again whether they should come over to help take that ball or should they let this player take that ball with their backhand. Again, a decision.”

In most cases, this puts pressure on a player’s backhand, which is usually weaker, while also forcing both players to decide who should go for the shot.

Go for the Backhand Side

The third suggestion was to hit towards the backhand of the player on the left. “Hit the ball towards this player’s backhand as well. Same reason weaker backhands mean they’re not gonna hit as good of a shot towards you.”

Kyle Koszuta added that this plan works better when the players are in their usual spots. “If these people are reversed, this player right here is the one returning, then I probably wouldn’t hit this target as much because it’s just a harder ball. You’re most likely not gonna get it to their backhand, but I would aim for these two spots right here a lot.”

Understanding the Advantage

Kyle Koszuta’s return tips are meant to help players win more points by keeping their opponents guessing. A confused team is more likely to make mistakes, and hitting returns to the middle or the backhand side increases those chances.

By thinking about these return placements, players at all levels can become more confident and better prepared when playing matches.
