Imani Phillips Shines with Silver at Record-Breaking English Open Pickleball Tournament

Imani Phillips English Open Pickleball: Bermuda’s top pickleball player, Imani Phillips, earned a silver medal in the women’s doubles at the English Open Pickleball Tournament. Partnering with Lily Hallet, Phillips reached the final at the Telford International Centre before falling 15-10 to Megan Bignell and Katy Taylor in the gold-medal match.

“It was an amazing experience and I am really happy with the result,” (Imani Phillips).

The pair secured four wins in group B to advance to the knockout stage and earned their place in the final with an 11-8 victory over Emma and Helen Monson.

Competing Across Multiple Events

Phillips also took part in the women’s singles and mixed doubles. In singles, she finished fourth in group C with one win from four matches. Her only victory came against American Isabella Nelson, winning 11-8.

One of her defeats was against American Alexa Schull, a professional player on the APP circuit.

“The match with Alexa was something that was super important to me,”. “She is an APP pro, so to be toe-to-toe with her like that was a really good way for me to see my level and understand where I am at.

I was down 7-2 and just completely shifted the momentum and brought it back to 9-8 and then she took the win [11-8].”(Imani Phillips)

In mixed doubles, Phillips partnered with Jerry Beck. The pair did not win a match but kept the games close.

“It was a really cool experience and I enjoyed playing with Jerry,”. “The shortness of the games, I think, kind of bit us. We weren’t able to get in any of them, but they were all close and good matches.”(Imani Phillips)

A Growing Career in the Sport

Phillips was among 2,400 competitors in the tournament, the largest pickleball event outside the United States. She entered the event following her strongest professional performance last month at the Next Generation St. Louis APP tournament, where she placed fourth in the under-23 competition after a narrow 15-13 loss to Brooke Revuelta in the bronze-medal match.

Her strong showing at the English Open adds to her growing experience against international competition, helping her measure her skills and prepare for future tournaments.
