Tyson McGuffin Unveils Game-Changing Pickleball Drill to Outsmart Opponents

Tyson McGuffin Pickleball Drill: Pro pickleball player Tyson McGuffin showcased a high-level dinking drill using the Dink & Drop Pro Pickleball Machine at ERNE Pickleball headquarters. The drill teaches players how to disguise a dink, target pressurized zones, and follow up with an off-the-bounce speed-up to keep opponents guessing.

Training Drill at ERNE Pickleball HQ

Tyson McGuffin introduced the lightweight Dink & Drop Pro machine and the new ERNE Replay net system. He explained, “As I’m doing this drill, I’m going to be working on some dinks, but I’m also going to be speeding up. And there’s a funnel that takes it directly back into the ball machine. How stinking cool.”

The drill focuses on hitting two balls in sequence: first a regular dink, then disguising the next shot as a dink before turning it into a speed-up. McGuffin emphasized precision in targeting, aiming at opponents’ right hip or dead-space areas, and maintaining consistent stance and paddle placement.

Key Techniques and Strategy

During the drill, players learn to control pressurized zones, execute off-the-bounce dinks, and convert them into unexpected speed-ups. McGuffin said, “Many of the little nuances of your dinking tendencies look identical to your speed up. Stance is open, paddles by the hip, keeping it inside a peripheral.”

He also highlighted adding topspin to off-the-bounce dinks and choosing speed-up placement carefully, ensuring opponents have difficulty countering the shot. The drill emphasizes disguise, control, and strategic placement, key elements for competitive-level pickleball play.

Importance for Players

This drill allows players to practice advanced techniques in a controlled environment, improving both consistency and strategy. Tyson McGuffin’s demonstration helps players learn how to surprise opponents, maintain accuracy under pressure, and enhance overall court performance.
