James Ignatowich Unveils Game-Changing RPM Paddle—Will This Innovation Redefine Pro Pickleball?

James Ignatowich Pickleball Paddle Launch: Professional pickleball player James Ignatowich has launched his own paddle brand, RPM, making him the first established UPA pro to create a brand from the ground up. The new line, called the Friction Pro Series, is USAP certified and will officially launch with a hard release on September 29.

From Pro Player to Paddle Designer

James Ignatowich was known as a power hitter on tour, but his frustration with existing paddles pushed him to study how they were made. Over the past year, he dedicated six or more hours daily to researching materials and designs.

“It became my passion,” he told Zane Navratil on the PicklePod. “I can tell you everything about any paddle.”

After breaking down almost every paddle on the market and creating 40 prototypes, he found a design he was excited to play with.

Experience with Selkirk and Moving On

For three years, James Ignatowich represented Selkirk as one of its key pros. He said he valued that experience but knew he needed to pursue his own vision.

“I was always wondering how you make a better paddle,” he said. “I wasn’t really trying to make a company in the beginning.”

What Makes RPM Different

The Friction Pro Series was built with advanced features like “Tri-Density Core” technology. According to RPM, this design uses three materials with different densities to create a bigger sweet spot and solid feel.

“I specifically made it for higher level play,” James Ignatowich said.

The paddles focus on spin, staying true to the RPM name. They will be priced at $249.99 and are already available, with a full launch planned at the end of the month.

Support from Fellow Players

James Ignatowich confirmed that his close friend, professional player Ryan Fu, will begin using the Friction Pro in tournaments once he has completed UPA-A certification.

He also noted how popular the paddle has already become in his local Florida pickleball community.

“The truest test of whether or not a paddle is good is how many APP pros are using it for free… If you go down to south Florida, you’ll see them everywhere already.”

Launch Details and Promotions

RPM will hold a launch week beginning September 29, which will include a special offer.

“Anybody who buys a paddle online, through our website will get a free Cameo from me,” James Ignatowich said. “And I will say whatever you want me to say.”

Looking Ahead

With RPM’s official launch, James Ignatowich has shifted from professional player to entrepreneur. His focus on design innovation and player feedback could influence how future paddles are made and marketed across the sport.
