Pablo Tellez’s Unfulfilled Pickleball Dream: A Shot at the World’s Most Iconic Venue

Pablo Tellez’s Unfulfilled Pickleball Dream: At a recent Major League Pickleball event, Colombian-born Pablo Tellez of the Brooklyn Aces shared insights into his introduction to the sport, his passion for the game, and his dreams of competing at one of the world’s most iconic venues—Madison Square Garden. Tellez, a former tennis player, recalled his unexpected start in pickleball.

“In 2019, I signed up for a random tournament because I saw there was prize money. Coming from tennis, I thought it was going to be easy, but I lost all my matches. After that, I was hooked.” – (Tellez)

That early challenge ignited a passion for the fast-growing sport, and Tellez hasn’t looked back since. When asked what makes pickleball so exciting, Tellez emphasized its accessibility.

“It’s just fun. Anybody can play and have fun the first try, which is tough to do with other sports. It’s inclusive, and that’s what makes it special.” – (Tellez)

As part of the Brooklyn Aces, a team competing in the MLP’s Challenger League, Tellez is proud of the growth of the league and his team’s role in it.

“Being kind of like the home team in the Challenger League, it means a lot to us to get our name out there and to have a larger audience. Hopefully, we can get the fans to support us and grow the game.” – (Tellez)

The conversation then turned to a larger dream—playing pickleball at Madison Square Garden, often referred to as “The World’s Most Famous Arena.” For Tellez, the possibility represents the pinnacle of success.

“That would be amazing. That’s the dream. One day for sure.” – (Tellez)

With Major League Pickleball expanding its reach and garnering more attention, Tellez’s vision of playing at Madison Square Garden might not be too far off. Until then, fans can catch Tellez and the Brooklyn Aces on MSG Networks as they continue their pursuit of success in the Challenger League.
