Imani Phillips Leads the Charge

Imani Phillips, at just 22 years old, demonstrated her exceptional talent by clinching two medals. Teaming up with Melisa Judd, Phillips captured gold in the women’s doubles event, solidifying their chemistry on the court. This victory followed her impressive silver medal finish in the women’s singles 3.5 category just days prior, showcasing her versatility and determination.

Strong Team Performance

The men’s doubles also saw Bermuda’s Alvaro Triana and Jaden Jones excel, as they took home bronze in the 4.0 category. Their path to the podium included a noteworthy victory against Jairo Rosales from the United States and Venezuela’s Leo Stango, illustrating the competitive spirit of Bermuda’s players. Additionally, Gavin Manders, a former Davis Cup player for Bermuda, added to the medal tally by securing bronze in the men’s singles 4.5 category.

Positive Outlook Ahead of the World Cup

Danny Fox, vice-president of the Pickleball Association Bermuda, expressed his enthusiasm for the team’s accomplishments. “We are off to a fantastic start,” Fox stated. “The team is really bonding, and we have lots of support at each event. I’m really pleased to see how we stack up with much larger countries. It’s very special to represent your country. The results of all the hard work and training are paying dividends.”

With a squad of 14 players, Bermuda is set to make an impact at the upcoming Pickleball World Cup, which kicks off this weekend in Lima, Peru.
