Turkey Slam Pickleball Tournament Lights Up Gatesville Civic Center

Turkey Slam Pickleball Tournament: The Gatesville Pickleball Club hosted the annual Turkey Slam Pickleball Tournament at the Gatesville Civic Center on Sunday, Nov. 24, drawing players of all ages and skill levels. With Thanksgiving just days away, 21 teams competed across multiple divisions in a doubles format, fostering community spirit and competitive camaraderie.

Tournament Format and Highlights

The round-robin format required teams to win two out of three games. The first two games were played to 15 points, while the deciding game, if necessary, went to 11 points. Teams showcased impressive skills across divisions, culminating in tightly contested matches.

  • Recreation Division:
    • First Place: Brennan Mata and Raymond Inman
    • Second Place: Ed Petrow and Ken Whited
  • Intermediate Division:
    • First Place: Ben Mabry and Jenny Mabry
    • Second Place: Kylie Dixon and Paige Baize
  • Competitive Division:
    • First Place: Alex Scott and Jeffrey Shonkwiler
    • Second Place: Cort Dixon and Chance Taylor

Giving Back to the Community

The tournament also served as a charitable effort. Kylie Dixon of Benchmark Mortgage and the Gatesville Pickleball Club collected food and household items from players and spectators to benefit the Gatesville Senior Center. Donations were incentivized with raffle tickets, offering participants the chance to win gift cards donated by Green Rooster Coffee Co. and La Hacienda Mexican Grill.
