Holbrook Pickleball’s Aero Series: Holbrook Pickleball has disclosed its new Aero Series paddles. These paddles are designed for all-court play and offer excellent value for money, making them a strong option for pickleball enthusiasts.
Innovative Edgeless Design
The Aero Series represents Holbrook’s first edgeless paddle design. The paddles feature a smooth surface that seamlessly blends into the paddle face, giving them a unique and modern appearance. This design is similar to Volay paddles, known for their sealed carbon edges. The Holbrook logo is well-placed, ensuring it does not interfere with the paddle’s spin performance.
Keith Valentine, a pickleball expert, emphasized the importance of aesthetics, stating, “If you like the look of a paddle, it makes you play better.” The custom grip and handle color-matching enhance the overall feel of the paddles, making them visually appealing on the court.
Enhanced Stability and Comfort
Holbrook has enhanced the Aero Series paddles with EVA foam injected around the edges and into the handle. This innovation improves the sweet spot, stability, and reduces vibration, which is often an issue with edgeless paddles.
Valentine compared this to the Pro Drive Counter, noting that while the Pro Drive offers slightly more power, the Aero Series excels in stability.
The paddles feature lead weights—10 grams in the top corners and 5 grams in the bottom corners—contributing to better balance and a larger sweet spot. The polypropylene honeycomb core is standard, but the foam injection and strategic weight placement distinguish these paddles from competitors.
Performance and Customization
When testing the Aero Series, Valentine noted that most edgeless paddles can feel unstable during play. However, he found these paddles to be exceptionally steady, with fantastic ball response.
The thickness options include 14 mm and 16 mm, allowing players to choose based on their style. The 14 mm version is lighter at 7.7 ounces, while the 16 mm version weighs 8.0 ounces, both offering customization potential.
While these paddles generate a decent amount of spin, they may not rank among the top-tier options. The T700 carbon fiber unidirectional paddle pattern provides solid performance. Valentine noted that the 14 mm paddle may be advantageous for advanced players seeking speed, while the 16 mm version is better suited for those who prioritize control.
