Sydney Grand Slam Pickleball Tournament Draws Record Crowds and Fierce Competition at Blacktown Tennis Centre

The Sydney Grand Slam Pickleball Tournament, hosted by Pickleball Tournaments Australia, will take place from June 13 to June 15, 2025. The pickleball event will be held at the Blacktown Tennis Centre on Sentry Drive in Stanhope Gardens, Sydney, New South Wales. Open to all members of Pickleball Australia, the tournament will feature singles, doubles, and mixed doubles matches over three days.

The competition will follow official Pickleball Australia rules and will be recognized as a sanctioned event. Registration costs $70 for the first event, and each extra event costs $30. Players can join a maximum of four events, including singles, skinny singles, gender doubles, and mixed doubles.

Three Days of Match Play

Friday begins with men’s singles and skinny singles. Saturday includes men’s and women’s doubles, while Sunday is set aside for mixed doubles. All events include round robin matches leading to semifinals and medal matches.

Games in the round robin stage will be played to either 11 or 15 points, depending on how many teams were in the group. Semifinals are usually one game to 15 points, win by two. If time allows, some semifinals are best-of-three to 11 points. All medal matches are best-of-three games to 11 points, win by two.

Tournament Rules and Player Info

Players have to sign up using a Pickleball Brackets account. The account has to include contact details and a Pickleball Australia ID number.

Doubles teams have to register at the skill level of the higher-rated player. For age-based categories, one player has to meet the age requirement. For example, in the 19+ category, at least one player has to be between 19 and 34 years old. Junior players can join the 19+ group by contacting the organizers directly.

All players are guaranteed at least three matches per event. The tournament uses X40 Franklin balls on its outdoor courts. Player rankings are managed using the DUPR system.

Venue and Media Use

The Blacktown Tennis Centre will host all matches outdoors. Images and videos will be taken during the event and may be used by Pickleball Tournaments Australia or its sponsors on social media and other platforms.

Tournament Director’s Role

The tournament director has full control to manage players’ entries and skill levels. This includes moving teams between brackets, combining or splitting groups, and changing match times if needed. The rules also allow the director to make changes in case of issues like weather or emergencies.

Growing the Sport

The Sydney Grand Slam will bring together pickleball players from across Australia for a major competition. With several events and skill levels, it gives new and experienced players a place to play and compete. As part of the Grand Slam Series 2025, this tournament will help highlight the growth of pickleball in Australia.
