Cabarita Beach Pickleball Courts Opening: Cabarita Beach Bowls and Sports Club has opened two new pickleball courts to bring in more players and boost income. The courts were built to meet rising interest in pickleball and are part of a larger plan to help the club grow and stay important to the community.
A Growing Sport
The new courts are already popular with players from Kingscliff, Pottsville, and Tweed. Pickleball is played on a smaller court than tennis, using a paddle and a light ball. Many clubs across Australia are adding pickleball to help pay the bills and attract new members.
Strong Support and Vision
Chris Watson, the new general manager, thanked the board and former manager Steve Penfold for making the project happen.
“It was the brainchild of Steve Penfold and things like this can really reinvigorate a bowling club,” Chris Watson said. “It is another avenue for us to remain relevant and keep up to date with what the community wants and needs.”
“There has been a lot of interest here and they’re coming from a lot of different areas,” Chris Watson said.
How to Play and Join
A pickleball group has started at the club. People must book online through the club’s website to use the courts. Members get discounts, and everyone can book times Monday through Saturday.
“The club is right behind this. Once they register online, they can make bookings for most of the week between Monday and Saturday,” Chris Watson said.
Every Tuesday, a two-hour lesson will help beginners learn the game.
“This also gives us the ability to host tournaments in the future while offering pickleball in other packages with barefoot bowls as part of group social events,” Chris Watson said.
What Comes Next
With strong early interest, the club plans to offer more events and mix pickleball with social activities. The courts may also be used for tournaments, drawing even more people to Cabarita Beach Bowls and Sports Club.
