St Arnaud’s Free Pickleball Sessions Spark Local Excitement—All Ages Invited to Join the Fun

St Arnaud Pickleball Sessions Weekly: Free weekly pickleball sessions will now be held every Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the St Arnaud Sports Stadium. The Northern Grampians Shire Council’s Thrive 50+ Healthy Ageing Hubs team is running the sessions after the first event drew a strong and enthusiastic crowd.

The fun, social sport is open to everyone. No previous experience is needed, all equipment is provided, and the game is easy to learn. Pickleball combines parts of tennis, table tennis, and badminton and is played on a small court with paddles and a light plastic ball.

Pickleball Welcomed with Strong Local Interest

The first “Rock Up to Pickleball” event in St Arnaud was a success, drawing people from different age groups and fitness levels. Some participants who came to watch ended up joining in and enjoying the game.

Mayor Karen Hyslop said the turnout and energy were excellent.

“It was great to see people of all abilities and fitness levels come along and give pickleball a go,” Karen Hyslop said.

“A couple came along just to watch, due to existing injuries, but they were able to participate and loved it.”

Local Participants Share Their Experience

People who joined the session shared positive feedback. Tracey, one of the attendees, said she was unsure at first but ended up having a great time.

“I wasn’t sure my knees would be able to cope with the game, but I felt really good and had so much fun,” Tracey said.

Another participant, Linda, also had her doubts before arriving, but was happy with her decision to try the sport.

“I had physio on my leg the day before and thought I’d just pop in to see what the hype was all about,” she said.
“I loved it. I played and felt great.”

Pickleball Grows as a Fun and Accessible Sport

The continued sessions at St Arnaud Sports Stadium aim to help more people enjoy a fun and active lifestyle. With its easy rules and social atmosphere, pickleball is becoming a popular choice for people looking for light exercise and friendly competition.

More sessions may be planned if interest continues to grow.
