Northern Rivers Pickleball Tournament: Ballina hosted the Northern Rivers Regional Rally, one of the largest pickleball tournaments in the area, attracting around 250 competitors. The three-day event took place at Ballina Indoor Sports Centre, featuring singles, doubles, and mixed doubles matches, with players traveling from south-east Queensland, Victoria, and the Northern Rivers Pickleball Club.
Strong Participation and Community Spirit
Julie Brodie and Fran Kealey traveled from Ocean Grove in Victoria to play doubles together. Kealey said,
“These guys here are impressive. It’s great to see a club with eight courts in a friendly community. The sport is just powering along wherever we seem to go.”
The Northern Rivers Pickleball Club has over 300 members, many now competing in state competitions and masters events. Live streaming allowed more fans to follow the action throughout the three days.

Club president Steve Bergan said,
“This tournament highlights the incredible momentum behind pickleball growth worldwide, including in regional Australia. It’s not just about competition, it’s about connection, inclusion and having a great time together.”
