2025 4th Annual Royal LePage Frost Bite Classic: Men’s Doubles Tournament in Vernon

The 2025 4th Annual Royal LePage Frost Bite Classic will be held on March 15, 2025, at the Vernon Pickleball Association Complex in Vernon, British Columbia. This one-day event, featuring the Men’s Doubles competition, has attracted 122 players. Registration for the tournament has already closed.

Tournament Details

The Men’s Doubles event will include five skill categories: 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, and 5.0. At registration, players will sign up in their appropriate skill level, with teams grouped into age categories after the registration deadline.

Depending on the number of participants, age groups may be divided into smaller pools. If any skill level does not have five teams or a multiple of five, the highest-rated team in a lower skill group may be asked to “play up,” and players from the waitlist may fill the spots.

Format and Schedule

The tournament will feature a round robin format, where each team plays at least four matches. In pools with 5 teams, the bronze medal match will be a single game to 15 points, and the gold medal match will be a best-of-three series to 11 points.

In pools with 10 teams (split into two pools), the top two teams from each pool advance to the semifinals. The bronze medal game will be one game to 15 points, while the gold medal match will be a best-of-three series to 11 points. Matches will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with check-in starting at 8:00 a.m. and the opening ceremony at 8:35 a.m..

Equipment and Eligibility

All participants must be members of Pickleball Canada in good standing. The tournament will use Franklin X-40 balls and require players to use USAPA-approved paddles. Players are reminded that protective eyewear is mandatory for the event starting January 1, 2025, with penalties for non-compliance. Clothing should not match the color of the ball.

Registration and Payment

Registration for the event closed on February 28, 2025, and a fee of $45 was required for participation. Payment was accepted through Stripe via the Pickleball Brackets system. Players had to ensure both team members registered within four days of the first player registering to confirm their spot.

Location and Facilities

The tournament will take place at the Vernon Pickleball Association Complex, located at 6601 Okanagan Landing Rd, Vernon, BC. The complex features 12 indoor courts with a hardcourt surface. The venue is non-air-conditioned and offers free parking. There is no fee for parking.

Rules and Officiating

All matches, including medal matches, will be refereed. The tournament director has the discretion to review and alter player ratings, merge or split brackets, or change start times as needed.

Impact of the Tournament

The 2025 4th Annual Royal LePage Frost Bite Classic provides an excellent early-season tournament opportunity for players to showcase their skills in a competitive yet low-key environment.

The event also serves as a preview for the upcoming BC Provincial Championships in July, giving participants a chance to familiarize themselves with the tournament’s court surfaces, balls, and format.
