Feisty Pickles Charity Tournament: Over 50 pickleball teams competed at the Kinsmen Henk Ruys Soccer Centre on Saturday for the Feisty Pickles Charity Tournament. The event was organized by Lung Saskatchewan to raise funds and awareness for people needing lung transplants.
Pickleball for a Cause
The Feisty Pickles tournament, which started in Alberta, made its debut in Saskatchewan this year. It brought together players of all skill levels for a day of sport and support.
“[It’s] a great way to not only come out and play pickleball and support a great organization, but it’s also what we’re doing today is raising awareness about lung transplantation and what that process looks like,” (Erin Kuan president & CEO of Lung Saskatchewan).
The fundraiser offered participants a chance to enjoy the growing sport of pickleball while contributing to an important cause.
Community Response and Future Plans
Organizers received positive feedback and hope to continue the event in the future. With pickleball becoming the fastest-growing sport in Canada, the tournament offered an accessible and fun way for the community to get involved.
“Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in Canada, and we wanted to provide a great event that would encourage people to come and try the sport, but also provide a great way for people that are maybe a little further along, a little more adept at playing, to also come and practice and have some fun tournaments and support a great cause,” (Erin Kuan).
Lung Saskatchewan plans to make the Feisty Pickles Charity Tournament an annual event, bringing people together each year through sport and support.
