Orillia Pickleball Club’s Membership Launch: The Orillia Pickleball Club is launching its first official membership season, starting on Monday, May 12, at 8 a.m. This marks a big step for the club, which has been playing informally for a couple of years. Memberships are now open, and the club is ready to welcome new players of all ages.
“We’ve been a club that pounds the pavement and finds places to play for a couple of years now. But it’s now official — we can finally accept memberships.” – (Vicki Reed)
Membership Details and Fees
The club is offering membership for a variety of age groups, with fees including mandatory insurance through Pickleball Ontario and Pickleball Canada:
- Ages 60+: $65 + $20 insurance = $85 total
- Ages 18–59: $75 + $20 insurance = $95 total
- Under 18: $40 + $20 insurance = $60 total
The season will run from May to October, depending on weather conditions. Members will receive a shoe tag, which must be worn during club hours. Non-members can still play for a daily fee of $5.
Court Access and Times
Thanks to support from the City of Orillia, the club has exclusive access to five public courts. Three courts are located at Tudhope Park, and two are at Homewood Park. The designated times for club members to play are:
- Monday to Friday: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
- Tuesday and Thursday: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Sunday: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Vicki Reed, vice president of the Orillia Pickleball Club, mentioned,
“There will still be lots of opportunities for non-members to play. Just like with any sport, clubs get designated times. If you’re not a member, you can play at other times or pay a small guest fee.” – (Vicki Reed)
Plans for Growth and Future Projects
The Orillia Pickleball Club is also working on expanding its reach. A youth program is in the works, and Reed hopes to offer open drop-in sessions for those new to the sport.
The club is also excited about the possibility of a new pickleball complex at the Orillia Recreation Centre. The city has approved a 10- to 12-court facility, which is awaiting grant approval before construction begins.
“That’s our big goal — the rec centre. Originally, it was eight courts, but the city really sees how much this game is growing.” – (Vicki Reed)
Support from City of Orillia
The club credits the City of Orillia for its continued support. Vicki Reed expressed, “The city has been fantastic. We’re over the moon.”
How to Join
Membership registration opens on May 12. Players must bring their paddles, balls, and water to the courts.
