The White Rock Pickleball Association raised nearly $15,000 for the ALS Society of BC during its Paddles for ALS tournament, held from May 8 to 10 at Centennial Park in White Rock. The event drew large crowds and strong support, even after rain briefly paused the games.
The tournament brought together pickleball players from across the region to support a meaningful cause. With high energy and strong community spirit, players competed while spectators joined in to cheer, donate, and take part in fun activities around the courts.
Local Players Rally for a Cause
Despite some rainy weather, the tournament went ahead with record participation. Dozens of players took to the courts, showing their skills and raising money for a cause that matters to many locals. “Our local pickleball community is over 400 members strong,” said John Bogar, one of the event organizers.

Volunteers helped keep things running smoothly, while crowds enjoyed the games, food, and raffle prizes.
Deep Personal Connections
The event was about more than just sports. Many involved had personal reasons for supporting ALS research. “It’s truly rewarding to support this great cause. Many in our pickleball community have been personally touched by ALS,” said Elizabeth Hadley, another key organizer.
“We initially hoped to raise $5,000, and now we’re approaching $15,000, with donations still coming in.” – (Elizabeth Hadley)
The community’s strong support was clear, both on and off the court.
Looking Ahead
The success of the Paddles for ALS tournament shows how much can be done when people come together for a shared purpose. Organizers said the event beat all their goals, and they hope to keep raising money for ALS research in future events.
The White Rock Pickleball Association continues to grow, with over 400 members already involved. Their next events will likely keep building on this momentum, combining fun and fundraising for good causes.
