Inside the 2025 PNL Provincial Tournament: Who Will Rise in St. John’s Biggest Pickleball Showdown?

2025 PNL Provincial Tournament: The 2025 Pickleball Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Tournament will take place from Friday, June 20 to Sunday, June 22, 2025. Matches will be held at the Rogers Dome at Greenbelt and Northpoint Sports in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Registration has now closed for this highly anticipated event.

The pickleball tournament is open to men and women playing singles, doubles, and mixed doubles across several skill levels and age groups. Events are planned to give local players competitive experience in a professional setup on hard court surfaces.

Skill Levels and Age Groups

Participants have been divided by both skill and age. Skill levels range from 2.5 to 4.0, and age brackets include 19-39, 40-59, 60+, and some 50+ or 19-49 divisions depending on the skill category.

For example, women’s doubles will feature all four skill levels, and within each, players will compete in separate age brackets. The same format applies to men’s doubles and mixed doubles.

Men’s and women’s singles events will begin at skill level 3.0 and continue through to 4.0, with age groups following the same pattern.

Rules and Guidelines

The tournament software only lets players register for events at their skill level or one level higher. For example, players rated from 1.0 to 2.99 can register in the 2.5 division, while those from 3.0 to 5.0 may enter 4.0 level events.

Teams are required to play in the skill division of the highest-rated teammate. The team must also compete in the age category of the youngest player, but teams may choose to play in a younger division if they want.

Important Registration Info

Registration officially closed on May 15, 2025, and spots were given on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each team’s spot was held temporarily until both players completed their individual registrations.

If a second partner failed to sign up within five days, or dropped out at any time, the other partner was given five days to find a replacement before the team was moved to the waitlist. Players who did not have a partner could use the “Looking for a Partner” section during sign-up.

Match Details and Scheduling

All games will use the Franklin X-40 ball and be played on hard courts at both venues. Final schedules for matches, including division times and days, will be announced by June 1, 2025.

Pickleball Newfoundland and Labrador has shared that they will try to schedule games for older age groups during the daytime on Friday, though this cannot be guaranteed.

Why This Tournament Matters

This pickleball event is an important part of Pickleball Newfoundland and Labrador’s efforts to grow the sport across the province. It gives players of all ages and skills a fair and fun way to compete, meet other athletes, and enjoy the growing pickleball community in Newfoundland and Labrador.
