West Shore Parks and Recreation Opens New Pickleball Courts With Grand Opening Bash and Community Tournament

West Shore Park Pickleball Courts: The west shore community is invited to attend the grand opening of six new pickleball courts at West Shore Parks and Recreation on Friday, June 13, at 10:00 a.m. Located at 1767 Island Highway in Colwood, the courts were built to meet high community demand for more pickleball spaces.

The new courts aim to serve both casual and competitive players. West Shore Parks and Recreation is owned by five municipalities: Langford, Colwood, View Royal, Highlands, and Metchosin. The celebration will include a ribbon-cutting, light refreshments, and exhibition matches featuring local talent.

Facilities Made for All Players

The courts were designed with players and spectators in mind. They feature lower fences for better viewing, spaces for social gatherings, and areas for both booked and drop-in play.

Courts 1 through 4 can be reserved online for $16 per two-hour session. Courts 5 and 6 are for drop-in use only and operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Bookings can be made up to one week in advance through the West Shore Parks and Recreation website.

Grand Opening Festivities

Alongside the exhibition matches and ribbon-cutting, guests will be welcomed by local leaders and staff. These include municipal mayors, councillors, board members of the West Shore Parks and Recreation Society, and recreation staff.

“This new pickleball courts offer a fun and inclusive sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, fostering connections and contributing to the overall health and well-being of our community,” said Kimberley Guiry, Chair of the West Shore Parks and Recreation Society Board.

“West Shore Parks and Recreation is constantly evolving to meet the needs of our growing communities and provide accessible recreation for everyone,” the facility added in a recent news release.

Upcoming Paddle Royale Tournament

West Shore Parks and Recreation will host its first “Paddle Royale” Pickleball Tournament on July 5. This tournament is aimed at beginner and intermediate players and will take place on the new outdoor courts.

The doubles tournament will include men’s and women’s divisions at the 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 skill levels. Players will enjoy scheduled matches, high-quality courts, prizes, and refreshments. The pickleball event promises a fun, competitive atmosphere and strong community spirit.

New Courts Strengthen Local Recreation

The opening of these new courts marks a step forward in growing recreational options in the region. With pickleball’s rising popularity in Canada, the new facility offers a place for people of all ages to connect and stay active.

The West Shore community now has greater access to a healthy and social sport, supported by well-planned infrastructure and community leadership.
