Pure Pickleball Newmarket Launch: Aurora entrepreneur Tyler Doyle has opened Pure Pickleball, a new indoor pickleball facility in Newmarket. The space, located at 620 Steven Court, launched on May 1 and offers memberships and rentals for two regulation courts. Doyle said the demand for pickleball in the area is already very strong.
From Idea to Opening
Tyler Doyle, who is 28 years old, said he discovered pickleball three years ago while visiting Florida. He quickly began to love the sport even more than tennis.
“I’m pretty business-minded and have been brought up in such a way. I always kind of wanted to work for myself and have some creative expression, as well through my business,”. “I always wanted to do something on my own.”(Tyler Doyle)
Doyle also owns The Range Aurora and a second indoor golf center in Alliston. After working in home sales, he and a friend launched their first golf facility when the market slowed down during COVID-19.
“Both things were something I was really passionate about,”. “Bringing that to other people is pretty awesome, I’d say.”(Tyler Doyle)
Building the Facility
Pure Pickleball was built inside a former warehouse. It features two pickleball courts, a lounge with free drinks, and artwork on the walls. Doyle said he and his friend did most of the renovations themselves over about 45 days.
“It was a mad dash, 15, 16 hour days in here,”. He also shared, “I love building facilities. That’s probably my favourite thing … getting my hands dirty.”(Tyler Doyle)
Since opening, the facility has been much busier than Doyle expected, hosting birthday parties and company events.
“It’s been a lot busier than I anticipated, which has been amazing,”. “With only the two courts, it’s been really busy with birthday parties and corporate events.”(Tyler Doyle)
Looking Ahead
Tyler Doyle said he wants to expand Pure Pickleball to other locations soon. He remembered missing the chance to grow faster with his first golf business and wants to move quickly this time.
“I feel like it’s a competitive advantage to be opening up as quickly as possible, and obviously, the demand for pickleball, it’s definitely there,” (Tyler Doyle).
The Town of Newmarket is also working on plans for a public indoor pickleball space to meet the rising interest.
Running businesses near home has been special for Doyle.
“It’s been amazing, especially leaning on the community when I need help, or doing some community engagement … a lot of charity golf tournaments and stuff like that,”. “It keeps me close by, close to my mom and dad, which is nice.”(Tyler Doyle)
