Fireworks Vandalize Windsor Pickleball Court, Leaving Players Frustrated and City Seeking Answers

Fontainebleau Park Pickleball Court Damage: A pickleball court at Fontainebleau Park in Windsor has been damaged after fireworks were set off on it, leaving players with one less space to play. The incident happened around July 2 and has caused permanent harm to the court’s surface.

The City of Windsor confirmed the cause of the damage was fireworks. James Chacko, the executive director of parks and facilities for the City of Windsor, said several complaints were received on July 2. City staff cleaned the area soon after, but the surface remains damaged and cannot be fully repaired.

Reaction from Players and Officials

Local player Marc Dibiase expressed frustration over the incident.
“It costs a lot of money for these courts and the city put the money out,” said Marc Dibiase. “People are lighting fireworks. Go do it on the grass.”

James Chacko said there are no current plans to resurface the court. He also noted that this seems to be a one-time event.
Chacko described the vandalism as “an isolated incident.”

He explained that public amenities in Windsor, such as pickleball courts, are not locked at night, making them more vulnerable to misuse.

What Happens Next

The City of Windsor has filed a police report. City officials are asking residents to help by reporting any information.
They ask the public to call 311 or the Windsor Police non-emergency line if they know anything about the incident.

Marc Dibiase hopes those responsible are caught.
“I hope they have cameras and can find the people so that they can pay for the repairs,” said Dibiase.
