Pickering Pickleball Courts Expansion: Pickleball players in Pickering will soon have more space to play, with six new outdoor courts set to open this fall at Diana, Princess of Wales Park. The courts are being built off Pickering Parkway, near the park’s gravel lot, and construction is already underway.
Meeting the Growing Demand
The City of Pickering decided to add more courts due to the sport’s rising popularity. The city already offers both indoor and outdoor pickleball facilities, but increased interest has pushed officials to budget for more locations.
Pickleplex Social Club also expanded local options by opening at the Shops at Pickering City Centre in March.
Seasonal Hours and Design Considerations
Once completed, the new courts will operate from May to October, weather permitting, and be open daily from 8 a.m. until dark.
To limit noise for nearby residents, the city conducted an acoustic study before finalizing the court design. A public survey also showed that most participants supported the project.
Looking Ahead
The new courts are expected to help ease crowding at existing facilities and encourage more residents to take up the sport. With interest in pickleball growing quickly, the city’s investment aims to support an active and connected community.
