Massive Pickleball Hub Set to Transform Metro Vancouver’s Sports Scene This Fall

Metro Vancouver Pickleball Court Opening: Metro Vancouver will welcome its largest pickleball facility this fall when Fairgrounds Public Racket Club opens inside Capilano Mall in North Vancouver. The new indoor venue will feature 12 courts, a lounge, and a café, giving players more space to enjoy the rapidly growing sport.

A New Chapter for Fairgrounds

The new facility is being built in the former Sears space at Capilano Mall. Fairgrounds, which previously planned a location at Pacific Centre but canceled before launch, says this site will serve as its Vancouver flagship.

“Expanding to Vancouver represents an exciting next chapter for Fairgrounds,”

said Drummond Munro, co-founder of Fairgrounds.

“We believe in the power of racket sports to create meaningful connections, support wellness, and bring people together across generations.

Capilano Mall’s dynamic community and the incredible energy of the North Shore make it the perfect home for our first Vancouver location.”

What the Facility Will Offer

Players will have access to league play, coaching, clinics, mixers, and themed pickleball parties. A shop with paddles, clothing, and gear will also be available. Alongside the courts, the lounge and café will provide a space for socializing before and after matches.

Community Benefits

Emily Kim, General Manager of Capilano Mall, said Quadreal Property Group, the mall’s owner, saw Fairgrounds as a strong fit for its goal of community engagement.

“Fairgrounds is an ideal partner in that vision. Their vibrant, community-first approach to athletics not only activates Capilano Mall in new and exciting ways,

but also creates memorable experiences for North Shore residents — a place to connect, stay active, and have fun year-round.”(Emily Kim)

Pickleball’s Growing Reach

According to Fairgrounds, pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in North America. It blends elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, and can be played indoors or outdoors.

Metro Vancouver players also have access to the Inclusive Place of Pickleball at the old Safeway in The City of Lougheed in Burnaby, along with several free outdoor courts across the region.

Impact and Outlook

The opening of the Fairgrounds facility is expected to give pickleball players in Metro Vancouver a central, year-round hub for both casual and competitive play. With strong community backing, the venue is likely to draw newcomers and seasoned players, further fueling the sport’s rapid growth in the region.
