Game Changer: Yorkton Unveils First Outdoor Pickleball Courts, Igniting Community Excitement

Yorkton Pickleball Court Grand Opening: The first dedicated outdoor pickleball courts in Yorkton opened at Heritage Heights Park on Saturday, marking a major step for the growing sport. The $300,000 project was funded by both Pickleball Yorkton, which invested $50,000, and the City of Yorkton, which covered the remaining costs.

A Community Milestone

The new facility includes four pickleball-only courts and two multi-use courts. Pickleball Yorkton president Gina Resler said the opening was a dream come true.
“This means the world to Yorkton Pickleball, it’s members, new players, and the City of Yorkton,” she told Yorkton This Week.

Resler admitted she once doubted if the city would ever see dedicated courts. “We made it happen,” she said, crediting the teamwork between the club and the city.

Looking Ahead

While Resler said the club has no set plans for more courts yet, she confirmed a major event is already on the horizon. Pickleball Yorkton plans to host its first outdoor tournament, called Summer Smash, in 2026. The event will use the new Heritage Heights Park courts along with the dual-use courts at Knights of Columbus Park.

Building the Future

Resler also emphasized how the courts will help grow pickleball for the next generation. “It gives us the opportunity for youth programming,” she said, highlighting the importance of introducing the sport to younger players.

Lasting Impact

The courts represent more than just a new playing space. They provide opportunities for competition, youth development, and stronger community ties. The opening sets the stage for pickleball to become an even bigger part of Yorkton’s sports culture in the years to come.
