The Nest Pickleball Facility Metro Vancouver: Metro Vancouver is set to get its largest indoor pickleball facility with the upcoming opening of The Nest. The 98,000-square-foot sports complex, located next to Tsawwassen Mills Shopping Centre in Delta, will feature 14 indoor pickleball courts, climate control, professional lighting, and 30-foot ceilings.
The Nest is being developed in collaboration with Steve Deakin, B.C.’s five-time Canadian National Champion and coach of Major League Pickleball’s Las Vegas Night Owls, as well as the Tsawwassen First Nation and Tsawwassen Mills. A groundbreaking ceremony was recently held near Entrance 4 of Tsawwassen Mills Shopping Centre.
A Place for Pickleball and Volleyball
The facility will provide space for year-round pickleball play, including competition-grade nets, court dividers, and outdoor surface courts. Under Steve Deakin’s guidance, The Nest will also offer coaching, clinics, social play sessions, and inclusive leagues for players of all skill levels.
Volleyball will also have a home at The Nest. The Seaside Volleyball Club, a nonprofit organization focused on youth volleyball development, will use eight competition-grade courts plus four additional courts in the pickleball area. Flexible volleyball space can also create 14 extra courts for major tournaments.
Pickleball Depot will open a retail store at the facility, offering equipment and gear for players.
Growing Pickleball Scene in B.C.
The Nest is part of a larger trend of new pickleball facilities in the region. Fairgrounds Public Racket Club plans to open a large facility inside Capilano Mall in North Vancouver this fall, while the Inclusive Place of Pickleball (IPOP) recently opened at The City of Lougheed in Burnaby.
David Snell, President of Pickleball BC Association, said, “There are new pickleball courts being built across B.C. as they are very much needed. Some of our 101 associated and affiliated clubs, some with municipality partnerships, some with private funding in retail store facilities like IPOP, and some purpose-built from scratch, such as The Nest. At many of these new pickleball facilities, players at all levels can benefit by developing their skills either for recreational play or more competitive endeavours. High-level players who compete in Provincial and Canadian National tournaments can take advantage of these new facilities.”
Steve Deakin added, “Pickleball players are constantly limited by the lack of high-quality courts. The Nest will be a game-changer, providing a safe, well-maintained space to play, rain or shine, day or night.”
