Victorious Peterborough Pickleball Players Snatch Medals at Kingston’s Epic Showdown

Victorious Peterborough Pickleball Players: This past weekend, the Kingston’s Battle in the Bubble pickleball tournament saw fierce competition as 200 players gathered to showcase their skills. Hosted at Eastern Ontario’s largest indoor pickleball club, the tournament featured 12 meticulously maintained courts, where both local talents and out-of-town athletes battled for top honors.

Competitive Categories and Structure

The tournament’s structure was as dynamic as the players themselves, featuring various skill levels across categories. Participants competed in Men’s and Women’s Singles 3.5 and under, 3.5+, as well as age divisions of 49 and under and 50+. In addition, the Mixed Doubles categories spanned from 2.5 to 4.0+, with similar age groupings. The tournament employed a pool round-robin format, allowing the top teams from each pool to advance to the playoff rounds, where the stakes heightened and medal winners were determined.

Peterborough’s Podium Finishers

The Peterborough contingent left a significant mark on the tournament, with several athletes standing atop the podium:

  • Men’s Doubles Skill: 3.5 (Age 50 Years and Above)
    • Silver Medal Winners: Joe Slezak and Don Jackson
  • Mixed Doubles Skill: 3.5 (Age 50 and Above)
    • Silver Medal Winners: Toni Rutland and George Ostermeier (from Pembroke)
  • Men’s Doubles Skill: 3.0 (Age 50 Years and Above)
    • Terry Grosjean and Kevin Steadman (from Elgin, ON)
  • Women’s Doubles Skill: 2.5 (Age 19 and Above)
    • Silver Medal Winners: Susan Bridgeman and Rana Leggette (from Glenburrie)
    • Bronze Medal Winners: Poppy Gillingham and Sandy Black

As the echoes of paddles striking balls resonated through the tournament venue, the Peterborough players demonstrated not only skill but also the tenacity and camaraderie that define the spirit of pickleball.
