Parksville Council Approves New Pickleball Courts: The Parksville city council has approved two major recreation projects that are set to enhance community facilities by 2026, marking an important step in the city’s 2024–2029 financial planning process. These projects include a refurbishment and expansion of the lacrosse box at the community park and the conversion of existing multi-use sports courts into dedicated pickleball courts.
Lacrosse Box Expansion
As part of the planned improvements, the lacrosse box in the community park will undergo a major refurbishment and expansion in 2026. The estimated cost for this project is $750,000, which was confirmed in a presentation by Director of Finance Jedha Holmes. This update to the lacrosse facility will enhance the city’s ability to host community and competitive events.
Pickleball Court Conversion
In a move to support the growing popularity of pickleball, the city council has also approved the conversion of current tennis and multi-use courts into dedicated pickleball courts. The project, which will cost $40,000, includes financial contributions from local pickleball clubs, who will cover $20,000 of the expense. The remainder of the funding will be drawn from the Growing Communities Fund.
During its Nov. 18 meeting, the council unanimously voted to include both projects in the upcoming financial plan. Councilor Amit Gaur added that pickleball user groups have expressed a willingness to provide ongoing financial support to ensure the future sustainability of the courts.
Tennis Courts Remain at Springwood Park
For residents who enjoy tennis, dedicated tennis courts will continue to be available at Springwood Park. This ensures that both tennis and pickleball enthusiasts will have access to suitable facilities within the city.
