Priyanka Mehta Claims Women’s Doubles: Maharashtra’s Priyanka Mehta won over Delhi’s Monica Menon to win the 35+ Women’s Doubles title at the 4th IPA Pickleball Nationals tournament held at Bennett University. The intense final featured a thrilling back-and-forth battle, with Priyanka emerging victorious after winning the match 11-2, 5-11, 11-9.

A Thrilling Match

The final showcased the skill and determination of both players. Priyanka dominated the first set, claiming it 11-2. However, Monica responded strongly in the second set, turning the tables and winning 11-5.

The third set was fiercely contested, but Priyanka held her nerve to secure the championship with an 11-9 victory.

Priyanka’s Journey

Priyanka, a Chartered Accountant by profession, has an impressive background as a junior tennis player. After a 20-year hiatus from competitive sports, she returned to the court a few years ago, transitioning to pickleball with ease.

She reflected on her experience, stating, “Yes, I do have a tennis background. I was a junior player but I stopped playing for a good 20 years. And a couple of years ago, I took up playing tennis again.”

Her past experience in tennis has given her an advantage in pickleball. “It’s been very smooth (transition) because as a tennis player, I have the upper edge with my drives,” Priyanka explained. She continues to improve her skills in doubles and mixed doubles as she participates in more tournaments.

Priyanka’s victory at the IPA Nationals highlights her impressive comeback in sports and her potential for future success in pickleball.

With her previous achievements, including four titles at the PWR DUPR event in Delhi last year, she is a player to watch as she continues her journey in the sport. As pickleball grows in popularity, players like Priyanka are helping to elevate the standard and excitement of the game in India.
