The first dedicated pickleball court called the ‘Home of Pickleball,’ has been established on the rooftop of Little Blossoms School in Urban Estate. Open daily from 5 PM to 7 PM, it has become a hub for young players, mostly college students, eager to explore the sport.
Growing Interest and Equipment Availability
The increasing interest in pickleball has led to the availability of equipment in Jalandhar’s sports goods market. Shops in Basti Nau have started selling pickleball paddles and balls.
“Pickleball is a relatively a cost-effective game compared to other racket sports. The racket costs about Rs 1,500 and the perforated, plastic ball costs Rs 60, both of which are more durable than the equipment used in other games,” said Sunny, the coach for lawn tennis and pickleball at the campus.
Understanding the Game’s Rules
Pickleball is played on a court with the same dimensions as a badminton court. However, the net is lower than in badminton, measuring 34 inches at the center and 36 inches at the edges. The scoring system includes games played to 11, 15, or 21 points. Unlike badminton, which is played in two or three sets, pickleball matches always consist of three sets.
