Why Indian Hotels are Racing to Add Pickleball Courts and What It Means for the Next Getaway?

Pickleball Courts in Indian Hotels: More and more hotels and resorts in India are adding padel and pickleball courts to attract guests. These racket sports have become very popular in big cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru. Guests want to play these sports while on vacation, so hotels are building courts to meet demand and offer new activities.

Padel and Pickleball: Easy and Social Sports

Padel and pickleball are social sports that people of all ages enjoy. Pickleball is simple to learn and costs less to play. It is similar to badminton and table tennis.

Padel is more intense, similar to tennis and squash, and is becoming popular among wealthier players. Padel is often called the next sport for the affluent, much like tennis and golf.

Hotels Join the Trend

Oleander Farms, a resort in Karjat, recently built padel and pickleball courts after many guests asked for them.

“We started getting requests for padel first, and decided to build a court. Seeing the great response to that, we added a pickleball court a few months later.” – (Founder Aaliya Ahuja)

Unlike city clubs, guests enjoy playing these sports outdoors in green spaces. Ms. Ahuja even hopes to host padel and pickleball parties with music and healthy snacks in the future.

A New Way to Socialize

Entrepreneur Aneesh Bhasin, co-founder of Svami Drinks, says these sports have changed how people meet.

“For the longest time, socialising in Mumbai meant eating out or drinking. Thankfully, sports like these have given us more avenues to catch-up, not to mention how addictive that dopamine hit is, when you’re pursuing an active lifestyle.” – (Aneesh Bhasin)

Mr. Bhasin also noted that the sport attracts more players because it is easier to learn and play.

How Sports Influence Travel Choices

Mr. Bhasin said that when choosing vacation spots, having access to padel courts or other activities like paragliding can influence his decision. He gave the example of Bali as a popular destination for sports fans. He also shared that during an eight-hour layover in Singapore, he and a friend played padel before catching their next flight.

The growing interest in padel and pickleball means hotels and resorts will likely keep adding courts. These sports offer guests fun, social, and healthy ways to enjoy their stay. This trend could continue to shape how people choose where to travel and what activities they want.
