Nagaland Makes Sporting History: 32 Teams Battle in Inaugural Pickleball Open

Nagaland Pickleball Open Tournament: The Nagaland Pickleball Association (NPA), with support from the Indian Pickleball Association (IPA), held the first-ever Nagaland Pickleball Open on July 13 at Aiko Greens in Dimapur. The event, sanctioned as a PWR 50 tournament, welcomed 32 teams from Nagaland and Assam.

This marked a major step in bringing competitive pickleball to the state and gave players a platform to showcase their skills in Men’s Doubles Open and Mixed Doubles categories.

Champions Crowned in Two Categories

In the Men’s Doubles Open division, Megotsolie Khate and Vilasier Khate claimed first place. The winning duo earned Rs 15,000 and a champion’s trophy. Dilip Mohanty and Abyan Zaffar finished as runners-up and took home Rs 10,000 with runners-up trophies.

The Mixed Doubles title went to Dilip Mohanty and Nazneen Rahman, who won Rs 10,000 along with the winner’s trophies.

Growing Interest in the Sport

The tournament drew a large audience. With its PWR 50 status, the event received national recognition and helped raise the profile of pickleball in Nagaland. It was also seen as a signal of growing interest in the sport in Northeast India.

According to the Nagaland Pickleball Association, “The first edition of the Nagaland Pickleball Open reflects the growing popularity of the sport in the Northeast and reaffirmed its commitment to building an inclusive pickleball community in the state.”

Teamwork and Support Behind the Event

The NPA thanked the Assam Pickleball Association for its support. The organisers called the partnership “crucial to the success of the inaugural event.”

The association also praised Dilip Mohanty for his leadership as Tournament Director. They credited him for “ensuring smooth coordination and maintaining a high standard of professionalism throughout the competition.”

Looking Ahead

With the success of this tournament, the NPA plans to continue developing pickleball in the region. The association aims to host more events and build a stronger, more connected pickleball community in Nagaland.
