Quang Duong Pickleball Triumph Mumbai: Vietnam’s top pickleball player Quang Duong had an outstanding showing at the Monsoon Pickleball Championship 3.0 in Mumbai, India, held from July 31 to August 3, 2025. Duong captured gold medals in men’s singles and men’s doubles, and added a silver in mixed doubles, just missing out on a rare Triple Crown.
A Major International Tournament
The Monsoon Pickleball Championship 3.0 welcomed over 800 players from around the world. With a prize pool of USD $60,000, it became one of the largest pickleball events in South Asia. Matches were played over four days in Mumbai, where competition across all categories was intense.
Duong Shines in Men’s Singles
In men’s singles, Quang Duong won all five of his matches on the first day, advancing to the finals with ease. There, he faced Indian player Aditya Ruhela. Duong played a strong and controlled match, defeating Ruhela in straight sets to claim the gold medal.
Victory in Men’s Doubles with Harsh Mehta
Quang Duong later teamed up with Harsh Mehta of India in the men’s doubles event. The pair performed smoothly throughout the tournament and saved their best for the final. They swept American duo Rob Nunnery and Ryler Deheart to win gold.
Harsh Mehta, who previously won men’s doubles at the 2025 Panas Malaysia Open, worked well with Duong. Their chemistry combined Mehta’s fast play and Duong’s technical skill, creating a winning combination.
Narrow Loss in Mixed Doubles Final
In mixed doubles, Quang Duong partnered with Emilia Schmidt. They advanced to the finals and faced the strong husband-and-wife team of Megan Deheart and Ryler Deheart. In a close three-game match, Duong and Schmidt were defeated 11-10, 7-11, 9-11. The result earned Duong a silver medal and ended his hopes of a Triple Crown.
Young Star with Big Potential
At just 19 years old, Quang Duong is widely seen as Asia’s best pickleball player. He has previously played on the PPA Tour and Major League Pickleball in the United States. However, he was removed from competition for reported violations of the uniform player’s contract, according to the United Pickleball Association (UPA).
What’s Next for Quang Duong
Quang Duong’s strong performance in India confirms his status as a rising star in international pickleball. Though he missed the Triple Crown, his two golds and one silver show his all-around talent. With continued focus, he remains a serious threat at global events and may inspire more Asian players to take up the sport.
