Delhi High Court Bar Association Pickleball Tournament: More than 280 lawyers will compete in the first-ever Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) Pickleball Tournament, which begins on August 22 at the Speed Up Club in Khan Market, New Delhi. Spread over nine days and three weekends, the event is sanctioned by the Indian Pickleball Association (IPA).

The matches will take place on August 22, 23, 24, August 29, 30, 31, and September 5, 6, 7. The finals are set for September 7. Games will be held each day from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

The opening match will feature the Hon’ble Judges against the Executive Committee of the Delhi High Court Bar Association, marking a symbolic start to the tournament.

Participation and Categories

Organizers have confirmed strong interest, with over 280 lawyers registering between July 16 and August 13. Competitions will be divided into two groups: players below 40 years of age and those above 40 years of age.

Entries by Category

  • Below 40 years: Men’s Singles (92), Women’s Singles (14), Men’s Doubles (83), Women’s Doubles (7), Mixed Doubles (28)

  • Above 40 years: Men’s Singles (24), Women’s Singles (2), Men’s Doubles (16), Women’s Doubles (2), Mixed Doubles (3)

This makes it the largest pickleball tournament ever held for lawyers in India.

Focus on Sportsmanship

While the competition will be intense, the main goal is participation and enjoyment. The organizers confirmed that there will be no prize money, but trophies will be awarded across all categories to recognize performance and sportsmanship.

Growing Popularity of Pickleball

The event follows the success of the LawStrings Pickleball Premier League held in May in South Delhi, the first pickleball league for lawyers. Interest in the sport has grown rapidly in New Delhi, with more professionals and amateurs taking to the courts for fitness, recreation, and camaraderie.

Significance of the Tournament

The DHCBA Pickleball Tournament highlights the growing appeal of the sport in India’s legal community. With its accessibility and health benefits, pickleball continues to attract new players and foster community engagement. This event could pave the way for more large-scale tournaments in the future.
