A Hobby, Not a Career
Despite the victory, Abhijit made it clear he has no plans to leave filmmaking.
“It’s not a transition in careers. Pickleball is a hobby. It keeps me active. I still continue being an ad filmmaker. The same way people jog, run marathons, or play badminton, I play pickleball.”(Abhijit Sudhakar)
A Strong Partnership
Abhijit praised his partner Rajesh Menon for his role in their win.
“It’s a good partnership. He’s very good with the strategies. He tells me what should be done, and I try to execute it,” (Abhijit Sudhakar).
The two players met at various tournaments and built a bond that led to their title.
Pickleball’s Growth
Talking about the sport’s rise, Abhijit credited tournament organizers.
“Momentum organises some great tournaments. It’s fun and a good place to meet people. Pickleball is growing, men and women are picking it up easily. At least it gets people out, playing in the open instead of sitting on their screens.”
When asked about prize money like the Rs 6.5 lakh pool at the Mumbai Masters Cup, Abhijit said:
“For me, it’s more leisure than a career option. But yes, higher prize money makes the sport more authentic, more respected.”
Staying Fit at 42
At 42, Abhijit focuses on fitness to keep playing.
“You’ve got to make sure your joints don’t give up on you. Strength training, yoga, flexibility, eating right — that’s what helps. Once you hit 40, things start paining.”(Abhijit Sudhakar)
He also shared a light moment:
“A good dump also helps. I’m kidding, I’m kidding!”
Balance Between Work and Play
For Abhijit, the court is a space to relax and enjoy. Whether he is directing films or directing shots in pickleball, he finds balance in both. His journey shows how passion and discipline can go hand in hand.
