From Tennis Star to Pickleball Phenom: Jaishnu Krishnan Eyes Glory at Chennai’s Rise Up Championship

Jaishnu Krishnan Rise Up Championship: Tamil Nadu’s No. 1 pickleball player, Jaishnu Krishnan, is set to compete at the Rise Up Championship – Pickleball By The Bay 2025, an Indian Pickleball Association (IPA) sanctioned PWR 1000 event starting Friday in Chennai. Fresh from winning the men’s singles at the Tamil Nadu State Championship Pickleball, Jaishnu arrives full of confidence and ambition.

Rapid Rise in Pickleball

Jaishnu Krishnan started playing pickleball just a year ago after retiring from professional tennis. “I started playing pickleball a year ago, earlier I was a professional tennis player, I used to train professionally. After I quit tennis, I started playing pickleball as a hobby, but soon after a few people realised the potential I had, they pushed me into the sport, made me play tournaments and right from there my pickleball journey grew and ever since then I have been playing tournaments around Asia, competing and I have made a few achievements that I am very proud of,” he told Pickleball Now.

Achievements and Rankings

Jaishnu has quickly made his mark nationally and internationally. “I made the semifinals in an international event in the pro category where I lost to Asia No. 3. Then I won a state tournament (Tamil Nadu State Championship Pickleball) a week back, I am the current Tamil Nadu No. 1 and I am ranked 11 in India,” he said. His rapid ascent highlights his skill and determination to excel in competitive pickleball.

Excitement at the Championship

Reflecting on the Rise Up Championship, Jaishnu Krishnan said, “This is the first time Chennai is witnessing such an event of a PWR 1000 calibre and the facilities here are really crazy, like a sundown is happening tonight with an after party for the players. This is something that has never happened in any sport in Chennai and I am really happy to be a part of it and I can’t wait to see how my match goes.”

Venue and Organisation

Set along the scenic Chennai coastline, the venue adds charm to the event. Jaishnu praised the organisers: “I mean the location is really nice, I am really happy they made it an indoor court. If it was one thing we would have been playing pickleball because of the breeze and the wind, but I am really happy with the way the event is organised.”

On Court Ambition

As Tamil Nadu’s top player, Jaishnu Krishnan brings recent victories, growing experience, and strong determination to India’s largest professional pickleball tournament. His participation underscores the rising standard of competitive pickleball in the country.
