Why Pickleball Is India’s New Fitness Craze—A Sport Anyone Can Play and Love

Pickleball Fitness Benefits for All Ages: Bengaluru’s Kavya Jayaprakash highlighted pickleball’s fitness appeal at the Rise Up Championship – Pickleball By The Bay 2025, India’s largest IPA-sanctioned PWR 1000 event in Chennai. Competing in women’s singles and doubles, she called the sport a great exercise that is accessible for all ages while minimizing injury risk.

A Low-Impact, Full-Body Workout

“The net, first of all, is very low and the bounce will be very low as well as it is a plastic ball. Hence, the players have to bend to play the shots. It is an excellent exercise for stomach and belly and cardio. The players run a lot. And the court is very small. The movements will be bit less compared to other sports like basketball, tennis and all. So, the risk of injury is less. So any age category people can play,”

Kavya Jayaprakash told Pickleball Now.

Her comments underline why pickleball is growing so fast in India: it combines moderate physical activity with low injury risk, making it ideal for beginners, seniors, and young players alike.

Inclusivity and Lifestyle

On the men’s side, Jaishnu Krishnan, who played in the singles draw, agreed with Kavya.

“Pickleball is a sport where it can be played no matter your age, so even if people are like 60, 70 or like 5, anybody can just take a paddle, run around the pickleball court and have fun with family and friends. And it is also like you are getting your body moving, so it just keeps you fit and helps you stay healthy,” (Jaishnu Krishnan).

Both players emphasized that pickleball is more than a game—it promotes fitness, social interaction, and family fun. Its accessibility and full-body movement are attracting players across generations.

Growing Popularity in India

With low risk of injury, easy-to-learn rules, and fitness benefits, pickleball is quickly becoming a preferred sport in India. From children learning the game to older adults staying active, the sport is proving to be both inclusive and health-focused, setting the stage for continued growth nationwide.
