Pickle Parlor in Monroeville: Pickle Parlor will have its grand opening on February 21 in the former Ulta Beauty store at Monroeville Mall. This new facility includes three indoor pickleball courts and will operate 24/7. It aims to provide a fun way for visitors to enjoy the sport while shopping.
New Facility Details
The 10,000-square-foot Pickle Parlor is next to Red Robin and near Barnes and Noble. This launch comes after a soft opening last week.
It is part of a larger redevelopment effort at the mall, which Walmart recently purchased for $34 million. Cypress Equities will manage the mall’s redevelopment, with plans for Pickle Parlor in motion before Walmart’s acquisition.
Growing Popularity of Pickleball
Pickleball is a low-impact sport gaining popularity, especially among older players. Many communities in southwestern Pennsylvania have added outdoor courts. Indoor facilities, like The Pickleball Warehouse in Homewood, have also emerged to meet demand.
At Pickle Parlor, various activities are planned, including open-play events, tournaments, and classes. Co-founder Bryan Kiger mentioned,
“In the near future, we will be adding pop-up coffee shops, pop-up brewery nights, some retail as well as autonomous refreshments.” – (Bryan Kiger)
Membership Options and Pricing
While not required, two membership options are available. The Basic Membership costs $65 monthly or $699 annually. Members receive five open plays per month, discounts on court rentals, and access to exclusive events.
The Founders Club is an elite membership limited to 50 members. Non-members can book courts up to six days in advance.
Court rentals are $40 per hour during peak times and $30 during off-peak hours. Overnight court rentals will be available in March for $15 per hour. Reservations can be made online or via the Pickle Parlor app, which is needed to access the facility.
High-Tech Features
Pickle Parlor incorporates technology to enhance the gaming experience. Players can keep score using Bluetooth wearable wristbands. This allows for quick scoring and instant replays of controversial calls.
“If you get into an argument as to whether the ball was in or out or simply don’t know if the ball was in or out, you can get an instant replay.” – (Bryan Kiger)
Additionally, the Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating system will be accessible via the app. This helps fairly evaluate players based on their skill level, ensuring competitive and enjoyable games for everyone.
