Cramton Park Set for Major Upgrade with New Pickleball and Tennis Courts

Cramton Park Set for Major Upgrade with New Pickleball: Lapeer is set to build six new pickleball courts and a tennis court at Cramton Park. The City Commission approved a $21,500 contract with MLR Engineering for site design. The project, funded mainly by an anonymous donation, is expected to be completed by June 2025.

Expanding Outdoor Pickleball Facilities

The existing tennis courts at Cramton Park are in poor condition and need replacement.

“With the increasing popularity of pickleball, the need for additional outdoor pickleball courts has become very clear,” (Rodney Church, director of Parks, Recreation and Cemetery).

Project Details and Timeline

The plan includes removing old fencing, light poles, and the current playing surface to make way for six official-size pickleball courts and a full-size tennis court. The project will also require removing a tree, a graffiti-covered wall, and part of a pathway. New lighting will be installed as part of the upgrades.

Funding and Completion Plans

The project is part of the City’s 2024-2025 capital improvement plan. Officials aim to have the courts completed by June, pending contractor selection and permitting. The City chose MLR Engineering over Rowe Professional Services due to ongoing projects Rowe is handling, including parking lot and road reconstruction work.
