Anchorage Unveils Rooftop Pickleball Courts With Stunning Downtown Views—Here’s Why Locals Are Flocking to Play

Anchorage Pickleball Court Rooftop Opening: Two new pickleball courts are now open on the rooftop of the 5th Avenue Mall’s Easy Park garage in downtown Anchorage, Alaska. The courts were added as a response to the sport’s growing popularity and offer a fun way for people of all ages to stay active.

Melinda Gant from Easy Park and the Anchorage Community Development Authority said,

With the addition of pickleball, it now brings in a wide demographic of our older population and our young population.

A New Place to Play in the City

The new courts are already a hit. After Easy Park posted about them on social media, local players quickly showed up to try them out. Some even stayed and played for more than three hours.

Pickleball has become popular across the country. The Anchorage courts add to the growing number of places where new and experienced players can enjoy the game. Kalani, a new player who started playing just over a month ago, said,

“I love that it’s a very accessible sport. You have a lot of beginners that can come in and within 20 minutes can be having a fun game with others at their level.”

A Sport That Builds Friendships

Many people enjoy pickleball because it helps build a strong sense of community. Peter Seiffert from the Midnight Sun Pickleball Club said the sport helped him connect with more people. He shared,

“I used to say we had about 4 to 6 close friends, now we have 20 to 30 close friends, and hundreds of friends.”

Besides pickleball, Easy Park offers equipment rentals for basketball, ping-pong, and cornhole. All rentals are available at the mall’s customer service desk.

Why It Matters

These rooftop courts offer more than just a new place to play—they give people a chance to stay active, meet others, and enjoy a sport that’s easy to learn. With pickleball growing fast in Alaska and across the U.S., spots like this may become more common in cities everywhere.
