Building a Place for Pickleball Fans
Kim DeLong, co-owner of Dayton Metro Pickleball, explained that their mission began two years ago when they searched for indoor pickleball courts nearby but found none. “At the time, you know, we were decently new to pickleball, but as (with) all new pickleball players, we were very quickly addicted,” DeLong said. When they had the chance to buy the Miller Lane property, they decided to create their own space instead of continuing to rent tennis courts.
A Community Sport at Heart
DeLong described pickleball as more than just a game. “It’s not just a game,” Kim DeLong said. “It’s a community.” She hopes the facility will be a social hub where players of every skill level feel welcome. The courts provide space for traditional matches, training, warm-ups, and singles play, reflecting the sport’s inclusive nature.
Looking Forward to Growth
With plans to expand as the business grows, the DeLongs are driven both by their love for the sport and their desire to make it easier for others to play pickleball in the Dayton region. The strong turnout at the opening event shows that many people in the community share their enthusiasm.
