Curious About Pickleball? Brentwood Clinic Welcomes Newcomers With Hands-On Fun

Brentwood Beginner Pickleball Clinic: A beginner-friendly pickleball clinic took place on Sunday, July 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Maryland Farms, located at 5101 Maryland Way in Brentwood, Tennessee. Open to all ages, the two-hour indoor session aimed to teach new players the basic rules, techniques, and strategies of pickleball.

Led by Terry Howell, a certified Adult and Youth Level 1 Pickleball Instructor, the clinic used a hands-on approach. Participants learned through explanation, demonstration, and practice, with feedback provided by the instructor. The session was designed to ensure that attendees could play a game of doubles by the end of the event.

Learning the Basics

The clinic focused on giving beginners a strong foundation in the sport. Topics included how to keep score, handle the paddle properly, and move with effective footwork. Terry Howell also guided participants through key techniques such as forehand and backhand drives, serves and returns, dinking, lobs, and volleys.

The clinic was held indoors at the Maryland Farms facility, using two indoor pickleball courts labeled MF – Indoor PB E2 and MF – Indoor PB E3. By keeping the session indoors, players were able to focus without concerns about weather or court conditions.

Teaching Approach

Terry Howell followed a structured method: describe each skill, demonstrate it clearly, and then let players try it themselves while receiving guidance.

The teaching goal was to make the learning process simple and enjoyable. Players practiced in a supportive environment that encouraged participation, no matter their age or experience level.

As more clinics are offered, beginners can continue to build their skills, meet other players, and feel more confident joining local games and leagues in the future.
