Robbinsdale Rec Unveils Pickleball: New Clinics Promise Fun and Community Connection This Fall

Robbinsdale Rec Pickleball Debut: The City of Robbinsdale will offer pickleball for the first time this fall through its Parks and Recreation Department. Two clinics are scheduled for September at the Robbinsdale Community Gym, giving residents a chance to try out the popular sport and prepare for a full league coming later in the year.

New Clinics Set for September

Pickleball is being added to Robbinsdale’s fall activities, marking a first for the city. The two clinics in September will introduce residents to the game in a relaxed, fun setting. Joel Ginn, the Recreation Programs Coordinator, said, “It gives you an opportunity to play a very social sport with your loved ones, essentially. See if it’s something you’d be interested in. And later on in the spring and late winter is when we’ll have a full league for that as well.”

The clinics aim to help people learn the game and decide if they want to continue with it in the future. The city sees this as an opportunity to expand its recreational offerings and encourage more community involvement.

More Fall Sports and Girls-Focused Programs

Along with pickleball, the city will also offer futsal and flag football this fall. These programs will include girls-only teams and special clinics for girls, ensuring equal chances for all youth to participate.

Support from Hennepin County Youth Activities Grants has made it possible to expand these programs. “Their support has been a game-changer and that’s kind of ramping up the programming we currently have and as we attack our initiatives,” said Joel Ginn. “In particular, an initiative that’s important to us is our girls-focused programs.”

Anyone interested in signing up for pickleball, futsal, or flag football can find more details and registration links on the city’s Parks and Recreation website.

Special Community Event Coming in October

The Robbinsdale Recreation Department is also organizing a fall event for families. The Birdtown Boo Bash will take place on Friday, October 3, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Sanborn Park. This event is expected to bring the community together for seasonal fun and games.

Expanding Access and Opportunities

With new programs like pickleball and strong support from grants, Robbinsdale is working to create more chances for kids and families to get involved in healthy activities. The city’s focus on girls-only programs and inclusive events shows a push toward meeting community needs and building a stronger recreation network.
