Lions Field Pickleball Schedule Changes: Pickleball players in Marquette Township will now have less time to play at Lions Field. On August 6, 2025, the Marquette Township Board voted to shorten pickleball hours to help reduce noise complaints from nearby residents.
New Pickleball Schedule
All sports at Lions Field can now only be played from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. However, pickleball specifically will be limited further, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Signs showing the new hours will be posted soon at the court.
Township residents raised noise concerns during several public meetings. In response, the board made changes to help keep the area quieter.
Possible New Changes Coming
Marquette Township Manager Jon Kangas said more solutions are being looked at to reduce the sound from pickleball play.
“We’re going to send some recommendations to the rec committee to consider as further ways of quieting the play, maybe, for the neighbors,” Jon Kangas said. “Such things as alternating days, the half-court limitation until noon is an option, as well as limiting play to the soft, quiet ball, which is a Nerf-style ball that we would provide and they’d only be allowed to use that ball.”
These ideas are still being reviewed and could be added in the future.
Court Reservations and Rules
The township board also reminded everyone that the courts at Lions Field can only be reserved through proper permits and payment. Without this, the courts are first-come, first-served.
