Fort St. John Gears Up for Biggest Pickleball Day Yet—Free Lessons and Fun Await at Kin Park

Peace Country Pickleball Day 2025: The City of Fort St. John and the Peace Country Pickleball Association will host National Pickleball Day on Saturday, August 9, 2025. The free, drop-in event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kin Park pickleball courts.

A Day of Fun and Learning

The event will begin with two hours of instruction followed by open play. Players of all ages and skill levels are welcome to join, making the day both educational and fun. The goal is to introduce more people to the sport and grow the local pickleball community.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own paddles, but spare paddles will be available. A post from the City of Fort St. John’s recreation department shared,
“Bring your paddle if you can,” and confirmed that extra equipment would be on hand.

Help from Local Leaders

Members of the Peace Country Pickleball Association will be present to guide newcomers. Rod Locke, vice-president of the Peace Country Pickleball Association, said,
“PCPA members will be there to help and provide instruction,” adding,
“If others are willing to help, please join us.”

The focus will be on teaching basic skills, answering questions, and helping beginners feel confident on the court.

The Rise of Pickleball

Pickleball has grown quickly in Canada, becoming one of the country’s fastest-rising sports. A 2025 survey by Pickleball Canada shows that about 1.54 million people now play the sport—an increase of 57 percent over the past three years.

Pickleball is similar to tennis but uses paddles and a plastic ball on a smaller court. It is easy to learn and encourages teamwork, making it popular among players of all ages.

Looking Ahead

National Pickleball Day is expected to bring the Fort St. John community together while helping more residents try out the sport. With interest growing fast across Canada, events like this play a key role in keeping the momentum going and building stronger local programs.
