Boopathy Sakthivel Pickleball Triumph: Boopathy Sakthivel claimed the Men’s Singles Open title at the Coimbatore Pickleball Open, defeating Opes Thejio in straight sets. Playing in his hometown, Boopathy secured a dominant 11-0, 11-8 win, giving local fans plenty to celebrate.
A Hard-Fought Victory
The tournament, hosted by Coimbatore Super Smashers, drew players from across India. Boopathy described the competition as intense and credited the experience with helping him prepare for higher-level events.
“It was a good level of match and I’m happy that I got through it, and also that the tournament has been well organised, and it’s also my hometown. So I’m happy that I won the tournament.
It was actually very intense because of a lot of players from other states have come here, and I have played a good amount of matches with good, experienced players. It will also help me to, you know, play the higher level of tournaments in the upcoming matches,”
he told Times Now after the final.
Sticking to the Game Plan
Boopathy explained that his strategy was to stay patient and focus on his style of play.
“For me, honestly, I will stick to my game plan. My game plan was to play slow, and then I just wanted to play my game. It was working out well for me in the first set.
Then later on, my opponent was able to catch up with me, and he’s also quick. I somehow managed to pull it through,”(Boopathy Sakthivel).
Focus on Improvement
Despite the win, Boopathy admitted he has more work to do before reaching higher levels.
“I’m happy with the performance in this tournament. But I feel like I can still do a lot more, and then maybe play a higher level tournament and compete, and let’s see where it goes. So I’ve been practicing quite a few, but not regularly,
but then this is also a good tournament for me to take it through and then focus on the next upcoming tournaments that I’m going to perform,” (Boopathy Sakthivel).

The victory not only gave Boopathy Sakthivel a hometown triumph but also boosted his confidence for future tournaments. His success against tough competition from other states shows his readiness to compete at larger events and further raise his game.
