Johns Brothers Redefine Their Pickleball Journey: Ben Johns and Collin Johns closed their 2025 doubles season by winning the 2025 Zimmer Biomet The Masters, their final tournament as a team. Despite finishing as the top-ranked men’s doubles team, they decided to split to focus on their individual growth and rediscover the joy of the game.
The brothers, long considered the most dominant duo in pickleball, revealed their decision stemmed from personal and professional reasons. While they achieved seven titles in 2024 and ended 2025 on a high note, Collin shared that their enthusiasm for playing together had waned over time.

Losing the Joy of Teamwork
Collin reflected on how their partnership evolved in recent years.
“We weren’t where we wanted to be, both in terms of results but also in the outlook we had when we went to a tournament. There were times in the past when the best part of our whole tournament was playing together, but I felt like late in the year, it just wasn’t the same anymore.” – (collin johns)
Focus on Individual Development
With the split, both players aim to develop their skills in new areas. Collin noted his past reliance on playing the right side of the court and serving as a complement to Ben. He hopes to expand his game and address his weaknesses.
“Building our games individually is something that we probably haven’t done enough of, and I feel like I’m probably more guilty of that because I’ve had this niche for a long time of ‘I only practice the right side, I only play the right side, I’m the complement to Ben,’ and that’s where I’ve stayed for obvious reasons. We’ve had a lot of success with that, but it’s also left some deficiencies that I openly acknowledge.” – (collin johns)
Ben, known for his dominant left-side play, will also adapt to new partners and strategies. Both players see this transition as an opportunity to grow, improve, and bring fresh energy to their games.
“Part of this is about expanding our own skill sets. I think it’s gonna be the same for Ben in certain ways, where he’s just so used to playing with me and knowing that I’m gonna give him court in these situations or that I’m gonna be there to block a ball in certain situations. It’s kind of the opposite for me, where I’m used to Ben covering the left side of my body in certain situations. There’s a whole host of things that I think we both can improve on by playing with other people.” – (collin johns)
A Legacy and a New Beginning
The Johns brothers leave behind an impressive legacy as a doubles team, having redefined the sport with their dominance.
Fans and experts now look forward to their individual journeys and how they will shape the future of pickleball with new partners.
