Cape Columbia’s Pickleball Camp Offers Pickleball Drills and a Czech Feast on Mikuláš Day

Cape Columbia’s Pickleball Camp Offers Pickleball Drills: The December Cape Columbia Pickleball Camp at the Lighthouse Resort offered a unique twist to the traditional Czech Mikuláš Day celebration. Players experienced a fun-filled, cultural event with a mix of intense pickleball and holiday festivities, creating lasting memories for all involved.

Pickleball Challenge with a Czech Twist

Players at the camp were divided into teams and participated in special pickleball drills. As they played, Coach Roman Sada, dressed as the Czech devil, handed out coal to players who made mistakes and potatoes to those who performed well.

Initially, more than half of the players received coal, but as the game continued, Mikuláš, dressed as Father Christmas, worked hard to encourage better play, ensuring every player eventually received a potato.

Coach Sada, known for challenging players’ skills, encouraged improvement throughout the event. After the devil left, Mikuláš remained to inspire and reward good play. He finished his mission by dazzling campers with his pickleball skills, playing with and against them.

Festive Czech Feast

After the intense pickleball action, Coach Sada changed into a chef’s outfit and prepared a traditional Czech Christmas dinner. The meal included pork and chicken schnitzel, Czech sweet bread (vánočka), potato salad (bramborový salát), and Czech beverages such as Pilsner, lager, wine, and Becherovka liqueur. For dessert, players who held potatoes were treated to Czech beehive cookies and sugar-coated croissants, which campers agreed were “heavenly.”

Lighthouse Resort General Manager Kevin Wojcik joined the festivities, humorously awarding Coach Sada a “Santa’s Favorite Czech” shirt for his efforts. As the camp continued, players felt the warmth and camaraderie of the holiday spirit, despite the heavy rain and wind outside.

Plans for the Future

The campers expressed a desire to learn more about Czech culture and pickleball. Some even asked if Coach Sada would take locals to the Czech Republic for future cultural experiences. Wojcik announced that the Mikuláš Day pickleball event would become an annual tradition, open to all locals wishing to participate.

This festive event combined pickleball training with Czech holiday traditions, creating a memorable and meaningful experience for all participants. The success of this unique celebration suggests it will become a beloved tradition for years to come.
