Arcata Launches Pickleball Courses for Beginners and Intermediates in 2024

Arcata Launches Pickleball Courses: The City of Arcata Recreation Division is offering two six-week pickleball courses for adults in 2024. The courses are designed for beginners and intermediate players, teaching both the fundamentals and advanced strategies of the game. The courses will take place at the Arcata Community Center gymnasium.

Pickleball Fundamentals and Intermediate Courses

The Pickleball Fundamentals course is aimed at adults who are new to the sport. Participants will learn the history of pickleball, rules, equipment, and basic skills like serving, receiving, and court awareness. They will also discover the health benefits of the sport and how to play in doubles. This course will provide the foundational knowledge and skills to start playing pickleball at local venues.

The Intermediate Pickleball course is designed for players who already have basic skills and want to refine their abilities. Participants will focus on advanced techniques, including different strokes, court awareness, shot selection, and doubles strategies. By the end of this course, players will be ready to play pickleball at a more competitive level.

Course Details

The courses will be taught by Enrique Esparza II, an experienced instructor. Two sessions of Pickleball Fundamentals will be held on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon, starting January 14 through February 18 and March 4 through April 15.

Intermediate Pickleball will be offered in two sessions on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon, starting January 16 through February 20 and March 6 through April 17.

An additional session will be held on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon, starting January 15 through February 19. All classes will take place at the Arcata Community Center gymnasium.

Registration and Fees

The registration fee for both courses is $80, with an additional fee of $13.50 for non-residents. This is a great opportunity for adults to improve their pickleball skills or learn the sport in a supportive and engaging environment.
